Amnesty International condemns the killing of two civilians in Tunceli/Dersim

Amnesty International strongly condemns the killing of two civilians on 30 October in the Ovacık district of Tunceli/Dersim. According to reports, a vehicle transporting materials to the Aşağı Torunoba Gendarmerie station hit a landmine, killing two people in the vehicle.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.

In August, an explosion in the south eastern province of Gaziantep had claimed the lives of nine people including four children. 69 people were injured in the attack. Statements by the authorities accusing the armed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) of responsibility for the attack have been rejected by the group.

Amnesty International calls for an immediate end to attacks on civilians. The authorities must conduct a thorough and impartial investigation and bring those responsible to justice in line with international human rights standards.
